Gregg Pierce and the vintage curling sweaters he donated to the club. Sweaters are worn by Karen Froese and Lenny Sapach who won them in a draw at the Stick Curling league Christmas potluck.
The story behind the sweaters is posted lower down the page.
A revised schedule for March 12 has been emailed out and is posted below. We've added a second game for everyone though this game will not count towards playoff placings.
The playoff games are set up so that everyone plays two games on March 19 and one on March 26. The draws have been emailed out and are also posted below. Check the draws to see which group you are in (A, B or C). All teams will play 3 games but A-side teams will need to check the schedule after each game to see when and where your next game will be.
We will be having a pizza/wings windup after the final games at 3 pm on March 26. We are collecting $10 per person for this so please pay Gary or Shaunda. Windup tickets will be handed out this week to those who do not also play in an evening league.
Congratulations to Herb Sulkers and Harold Peterson for being the Grand Aggregate winners. Not sure about round 1 but they are undefeated so far in round 2.
For more information on this league, please contact Gary Plohman at srossing@mymts.net or email the club directly at beausejourcurlingclub@gmail.com.
In Brandon, 1886, Henry Patmore opened a nursery and flower store that became very well known throughout the world. He built a 2 ½ story small mansion surrounded by a fancy wrought iron fence that enclosed many trees and shrubs. Henry planted most of the (now) huge trees in the old fair grounds, just across the street from his house on 13th St.
Many years later (1951) my parents bought and raised me and my sister in a tiny house next door. Old Henry had died at this point and his son Robert (Dick) took over the nursery and built a house on the other side of his fathers for his wife Hazel and himself. The mansion was lived in by 2 spinster sisters, Hazel and Daisy, while I was growing up.
Many more years later, after the sisters were gone, a niece came to live at the house. She knew I curled, as did my mom and wondered if I would be interested in 2 curling sweaters she had in the basement. They led me into the basement which had a dirt floor and 6 foot stone foundation and many old objects stored there. She knows nothing of the sweaters other than they belonged to the Patmores. I don’t believe they are more than 70 years old (the red one is in poorer shape but likely older). A quick “google search” shows many sweaters like this, some that have value, if so, enjoy.
As none of my family curls, I hope the winner enjoys these and they won’t be discarded.

One of the upgrades done to our club during the Covid shutdown was the addition of an elevator and ramps to give wheelchair access to the ice surface as well as the main lounge area. This video features Joanne Lowery, a member of our stick curling league, who is now able to curl again as well as join the others in the main lounge for post-game refreshments.
